July’s Blazing Summer
Barbecues and picnics,
Swimmers soaking up the rays.
Bike Rides in the country,
Shady spots on sunny days…
Summertime vacations, lemonade on front porch swings
Special thoughts and memories of July’s
most favourte things.
July is a month filled with many celebrations and rituals for people of various cultures and traditions. The name “July” is derived from Julius Caesar, the Roman general and statesman who was assassinated in 44 BC. Caesar was born in July, and the month was named in his honor after his death.
July has some notable celebrations such as Canada Day, Celebrated on July 1. This is a national holiday in Canada that celebrates the country’s Confederation in 1867. It is a day of parades, fireworks, and other festivities, with many people flying the Canadian flag to show their pride in their country.
The phrase “the dog days of summer” comes to mind as early July in the northern hemisphere brings hot sultry weather. We see summer vacation begin as the school year has ended and kids are out for the summer.  Summer holiday plans are put into action with trips out camping or visiting family abroad. It is a time to soak up the warmth of the sun and spend evenings late outdoors enjoying the light that has begun its journey into shorter daylight days in the coming months.
